I'm working my way through the Mad Max series and I just finished The Road Warrior. I still think that Mad Max is a little bit better but that doesn't stop me from giving this one a 10/10 either. It truly is an amazing film and a brilliant sequel that builds its own post-apocalyptic world.<br/><br/>Mel Gibson returnsMax and does a great job. I love all the characters in this onewell. The story is great and so are effects and just about everything else. The Road Warrior deserves its statusone of the best sequels ever made because that's exactly what it is. I was blown away by it.<br/><br/>See this one if you loved the first one and even if you didn't. It's a great film either way.
POSSIBLE SPOILERS!!<br/><br/>Superior to the first in many waysthe action and budget are boosted, the vision of the future is more vividthe world deteriorates into a desert of lone travellers, biker gangs and small colonies all fighting over gasoline- the only useful resource left. Just like today then. The movie moves at a furious paceMax is led by the Gyro Captain (the only man who can fly, it seems) to a small settlement under attack by the Humungus and his leather clad mates who wants their store of Gasoline. Max decides to help, rejecting notions of heroism, only wantingmuch Gashe can carry. Eventually the entire settlement moves camp, and so begins one of the greatest chase scenes and spectacular set pieces ever. Cars and bikes crash everywhere, bodies jump from train to car to truck to buggy to bike and back again, all without any cutting, and in the end Max moves on by himself. there are other impressive moments- the boomerang antics, the 'smaller chases' and the overall imagery of the film. Max here has almost become a soulless wanderer, with little point in existing except to simply exist, and in helping the camp he becomes a more mysterious, enigmatic anti-hero. Lots of allusions to Homer. Australia's best film? 9 out of 10.
Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior is a straightforward action/adventure film, filled to the brim with over-the-top chases and stunts.
All DVD releases worldwide only contained the R-Rated versions, however, the Blu-ray surprisingly featured the two violence scenes (despite the US release's R-Rated sticker on the back). Papagallo's speech is still cut and the VHS releases are still the only ones featuring the complete movie. No, but seeinghow the gang tended to pillage, rape and kill everyone they came across, not too many women would be left by the end of each raid. We see that there were at least a few women in the gang who were likely justvicious and brutalthe men in the gang. The rest of the crew probably looked at ita free-range prison; You'd take what you could get, suchWez and his submissive partner named "Golden Boy". Whether Golden Boy was a sex slave or a willing participant or both is up to the viewer to decide. Right after the Feral Kidkills Golden Boy with his boomerang, Humungus tells Wez,he has him in a headlock and subdues him, "I understand your pain! We all lost someone we love." Despite his rather sociopathic, marauding nature, Humungus still understands what loss is. Also, being in the post-apocalyptic world, the religious/social stigma about homosexuality would likely all but vanish.
